About me.

I’m 48 years old and I have been married to my High School sweetheart Melanie for 27 years. I have 2 boys that are so old that they have facial hair. My son Bryce is married and is a representative for Aflac and my youngest son Caleb has just graduated from High school.
I have had the pleasure of being a part of 5 church plant teams here in Columbia South Carolina and in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. In 4 out of the 5 church plants I functioned as the worship leader. The Irmo campus is my first attempt at being a lead pastor. My Christian experience has ran the range of saved and called into ministry in the Southern Baptist church, experienced the power of the spirit in the 80’s at charismatic church, learned to moved in the gifts at a Vineyard church, experienced the sacraments in a convergence church, became a seeker sensitive pastor in a Willow Creek church and planted a multi-site church with Seacoast church. I’m either a skitzo or an early adopter, or both!

About Seacoast Irmo campus.

In March of 2003 I and 13 amazing people that were given to me by the Columbia campus started Seacoast Irmo. We met in my home for 6 months until we had our official launch in September of 2003. We had 50 people on our launch team and had 350 show up at our grand opening. After the dust settled we ended up with around 150-175 to begin our journey.
We are approximately 120 miles from the original campus and we are one of two campuses ministering in the Columbia city limits. The other Columbia campus is about 35 minutes from my campus. We were the 4th Seacoast campus launched and are the oldest mobile campuses of Seacoast church. We met in a movie theater for 3 years and grew to around 425 people and are presently leasing space from a Christian school on Wednesday’s and Sunday’s. Although we are still somewhat of a mobile church, the school takes much less set up and take down work than the theater. By the time we moved into the Christian school in September of 2006 we had dropped 3 very large 20 X 20 containers that held all our equipment. We still set up and take down much of our children’s ministry class rooms and our music team has to clear all their equipment most weeks from the stage.

After 6 years of ministry we average 700 people and have a goal of growing to 1,000 people by September of 2010. We have 4 full-time staff members (Campus Pastor, Student Pastor, Connection team leader and administrative assistant. We also have 3 part-time staff members that work 20 hours per week (Small groups, Children’s & Worship). We currently pay 2 musicians a small amount per week to provide consistency in our music quality.

I also function as the Regional Pastor for our 5 Seacoast distance campuses (Irmo, Columbia, Greenville SC, Asheville NC and Greensboro NC). My passion and highest calling is to be a pastor and friend to these amazing pastors I represent. I help them with budgets, strategic planning, staffing and any other issue that might arise at their campus. My job is to also help Seacoast leadership and Central Support provide support systems and strategies for our distance campuses. Growing a campus 30 minutes from the original is very different than growing a campus 2 hours to 6 hours from the original campus.

This was shot and edited on a Flip video camera (by me the CP). Because we are so far from Central Support we shoot most of our videos ourselves. Not the best quality, but effective. 150 book bags were taken the morning this video was played.

John, you are right on track! We experience the same thing here at Seacoast. The original campus has a huge Celebrate Recovery ministry and sometimes Pastor Greg even mentions it in his sermons. I always dread checking my emails after one of those...

I think it is just so valuable in the early days to build a deep unity with your high impact players (staff). In the early years it takes so many people making such heroic efforts that you need the entire family to see the vision so they understan...

Hi Jason, I have been a CP for almost 6 years now for Seacoast Church. The first year I was the only FT paid staff person except for my wife who was our part-time administrative asst (another long story). I have always had this value that people a...
